Deano looks to create a watch tower that is eaily portable through bush, beach, or water. New Zealand is a rugged landscape that has many hidden beaches that can get busy during summer periods, but due to remote, or inaccessibility, they are often under guarded, or unguarded. In hopes to improves water safety Deano looks to expand the lifeguards range.
DEANO was a short competition style project that worked along side Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, specifically the Piha Rescue team. Our team’s focus was:
How to make surf life saving accessible to remote regions.
New Zealand is notorious for it’s swells, rips, and powerful waves, which every year causes harm on unbeknownst swimmers. Our team created a rigid portable elevation module that accommodated two life guards, the minimum required on duty, that could be carried or floated to location and tied onto the hood of a car, or the back of a quad bike. Utilising as much space as possible became a focus as budgeting and fixtures needed to remain minimal.
