Me
I am an Oceanic child born and raised between three islands, New Zealand, Fiji and Australia. Brought up in both Brisbane, Australia, and Hamilton, New Zealand, I call these places’ “home”.
Much of what I like to do involves making things easier to find, navigate and control. Whether this be in my early design practice involving wayfinding and apps for the public space, or as a high school teacher helping students figure out what it is they need to do in a format that works for them. My experience across education, tourism, hospitality, trades, and creative has allowed me to better understand the inner workings of fields other designers may not have done.
My next step is to help design and implement the next stage of artefacts to navigate the public realm.
Where I spend my time.
I have been a secondary technology teacher for the past 3 years, spending hours teaching young adults about materials, design exploration, and fabrication strategies.
Alongside planning and taking students out on outdoor camp experiences.
Beyond that…
I absolutely loved a good competition, here are some I have enjoyed:
NASA Space Hackathon 2015 & 2016 NZ.
SINZ (Social Innovation NZ) Kickstarter Winner, 2017.
Climathon 2017, interdisciplinary international competition looking at ways to combat climate change.
Recreation
Tinkerer - Often have a small project or pursuit on the go, this year it has been model cars.
Do-er-er - I will spend most of my week actively engaging in some sport. Past year has been bouldering, prior to that was sailor, mountain biker, and free-diver.
Water boy, whether it be in it, on it or around it my passions often surround water. A passionate aquarist, a lover of rock pools and the desire to constantly go swimming.
